The exhibit then runs through May 4. Viewing hours are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with extended viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays. Both the reception and the exhibit are free and open to the public.
Father Anthony Carbone, pastor of St. Sylvester Parish in Slickville, PA, was instrumental in bringing these paintings to Caritas Christi by obtaining funding from a private source. During a recent visit to Whitestone Gallery in Philadelphia, Father Carbone became aware of the collection’s availability for display and exhibits. When Father Carbone viewed this contemporary artwork, he immediately thought of displaying it in a contemporary building: Caritas Christi.
Vonaesch’s paintings are described as colorful, illuminated, and tending toward expressionism. Using the Bible as her main source of inspiration, her paintings are filled with people, faces, and feelings.
“The spiritual dimension is part of a whole reflection concerning modern Christian iconography with a double challenge: first, to give religious imagery its place back in our pictorial society and in the church; second, to illuminate these biblical texts in a new and original way since the Bible has been illustrated many times during the centuries,” writes Vonaesch in a statement about her work.
