Seton Hill University hosts its 21st annual Women in Science Day on Thursday, May 14. Women in Science Day recognize females who are juniors from regional high schools who have been nominated by their teachers as students who excel in mathematics, biology, and/or chemistry.

The event features a keynote address by Janice Kenneson, D.O. Kenneson is a physician with Marianne Family Practice Associates in Shippenville, Pa. She is currently on the staff of Clarion Hospital and serves as the school physician for the Clarion Area School District. Kenneson actively participates in training medical students and is a clinical preceptor for Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Seton Hill in 1986. Kenneson earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1991. Janice was part of the inaugural class of alumni inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame by Seton Hill in 2006. Janice is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

The first Women in Science Day was initiated in 1989 by Sister Margaret Burns, SC, former physics and mathematics faculty member. This event was developed in response to a goal set forth at a Neylan Conference, a gathering of educators from Catholic universities, which was founded by female religious congregations. The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill founded Seton Hill University. The goal of the Conference was to encourage teachers to design a program, at their own university, which would affirm and encourage young women in their study of mathematics and science.
