GREENSBURG, PA- The Seton Hill College social work program announces its spring seminar will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 from 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. in Room 206 of the Administration Building on campus. The seminar, titled “The Psychology of Terror,” will feature presenter Dr. Vincent J. Giannetti, LSW of Duquesne University. The seminar is designed for employees of human service organizations; private practitioners; and social work, sociology, psychology and other interested faculty and students.

Dr. Giannetti is a professor of pharmaceutical administration at the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy who has published extensively on the subjects of substance abuse, health care ethics and communication skills, brief psychotherapy, and mental health policy. Dr. Giannetti is the editor of the Journal of Biotechnology and is on the editorial board of Health and Social Policy. He is both a licensed psychologist and licensed social worker in Pennsylvania and maintains a private practice, consulting human service agencies and businesses.

To some extent, most Americans have experienced aspects of traumatic stress syndrome related to the recent terrorism, and most anticipate that the phenomenon of terrorism will not go away soon, if at all. Dr. Giannetti will discuss how traumatic stress affects us and relate our reactions to traumatic stress to the psychology of terrorism. The goals of and reactions to terrorism, as well as coping skills and recovery strategies will also be discussed. There will be a question/ answer period at the end.

Cost for the seminar is $20 per person, and includes a continental breakfast. Two Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) are available for the course at an additional $5. The CEU’s are provided through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work, a PA-approved provider of social work continuing education.
